Strategic Navigation Architect for Life’s Complex Healthcare Journeys

Navigating today’s healthcare system is a design challenge, not just a logistical one. Whether you are managing a chronic condition, facing a sudden medical crisis, or architecting a future of autonomy, you deserve a partner who sees the big picture.

At Beacon Patient Solutions, I help clients at all stages of life take control of their healthcare journey. Complex systems, medical, legal, and residential, are rarely built with the patient’s experience in mind. My role is to bridge that gap. As a Strategic Navigation Architect, I don't just provide guidance. I design the structural systems required for you to make informed decisions that reflect your personal values.

The Beacon Approach: Proactive Architecture

Many independent patient advocates are hired in the heat of a crisis. My practice is different. While I am fully equipped to handle urgent medical advocacy, my true strength lies in proactive infrastructure. I work with individuals who understand that autonomy is an asset to be managed, not a risk to be ignored. By applying my proprietary Planning Model, I help you ensure your medical, legal, and lifestyle infrastructure is interconnected, bulletproof, and ready for whatever life brings - at any age.

About Ailene Gerhardt, Founder, Beacon Patient Solutions LLC and the Navigating Solo Network, Independent Board Certified Patient Advocate, National Authority on Solo Aging, Solo Aging Educator, and Advocate, Certified Senior Advisor ®

My career is dedicated to a singular mission: ensuring that when you navigate the healthcare system, you are an informed, empowered, and confident consumer.

My journey began with a 17-year career in human services, advocating for students and faculty in higher education. However, my true calling was revealed when my mother became gravely ill. Experiencing the systemic exhaustion of a healthcare crisis firsthand transformed my professional perspective. I realized that the system isn't broken; it is designed for a type of support that many people—regardless of age—struggle to access.

I founded Beacon Patient Solutions to bridge that gap. I am not just an advocate who responds to emergencies; I am an architect who helps you build the safety net before the emergency arises.

My Specialization: While I advocate for clients across the entire age continuum, I have developed a national reputation for my deep expertise in the needs of Solo Agers (adults 55+ who, because of choice or circumstance, are without the reliable support of adult children or close family members). This requires a unique, highly specialized structural approach to planning, which has become a cornerstone of my practice.

In 2021, to further support this specific community, I launched the Navigating Solo Network, a community-driven initiative that provides educational resources and peer support.

Today, I balance two worlds:

  • Beacon Patient Solutions (My Practice): My professional firm providing high-level, bespoke advocacy, strategic planning, and architectural audits for individuals at any stage of life.

  • Navigating Solo™ (The Network): A global community resource where solo agers connect and access specialized planning tools.

Professional Standing & Recognition

My advocacy is grounded in clinical training and validated by national standards. I am a Board Certified Patient Advocate (BCPA) and a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA®). I serve as a strategist for organizations like the Massachusetts Health Care Advocates (MAHCA), and my work has been honored by the national advocacy community.

Selected Honors:

  • 2023 Independent Advocate of the Year: Awarded at the Healthcare Advocate Summit.

  • 2025 Leading Women to Watch™: Recognized for pioneering systemic change in solo aging.
